According to producers, the 88th edition of the Academy Awards, set to take place on February 28, 2016, will have two hosts. When asked about this decision, newly announced producer David Hill joked, “Two is better than one,” and then added, “Just imagine, you’re in there. One of your hosts drops dead from cardiac arrest. What do you do? Second host goes on! And you keep going. … Note to self. Check out their heart rates.”
Co-producer Reginal Hudlin stated, “We have absolutely talked about duos. We’ve talked about a lot of different configurations. I love that David is a flamethrower, and I’m always way more secretive and tight-lipped. But we’re still very much in the brainstorming phase.”
This announcement brings about several speculations on who the golden duo could be. The producers apparently already have in mind who they will be, but they have not disclosed this yet. The announcement will be made in the upcoming months.
This is not the first time that the Oscars have featured two hosts. The last time was on 2011 when Anne Hathaway and James Franco hit the stage in a performance that was disastrous to many. Due to their great connection on stage, Amy Poehler and Tina Fey are popular candidates. They have shown their success co-hosting three Golden Globe ceremonies in a row.
Another strong couple that might become a fan favorite are Comedy Central duo Keegan Michael-Key and Jordan Peele. There is also Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Schumer who have grown to be very close friends – and they are funny!
We can’t wait to find out the final decision!
